Cass Valley Enterprises (CVE) – The program has transformed over the past 30 years. In the initial stages skills were taught to individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) on finishing ceramics, paper shredding and day shift janitorial operations.
In 1992 there was a paradigm shift and the concept of the program changed to what CVE is today, a manufacturing and assembly plant. Between 1992 and 1994 plans were being made to build and move into a 10,000 square foot plant in the Caro Industrial Park. Over the next few years CVE acquired several local and government contracts, and began to provide the products and services you have seen on the previous pages. In October 2002, CVE became ISO 9001 registered.
CVE outgrew the Caro facility, and in June 2004, moved to a 40,000 square foot facility in Vassar. At CVE, individuals are not only provided with skill building, employment and educational opportunities, but an environment to enhance the quality of existing work skills and ethics.
AbilityOne – CVE is an AbilityOne producing facility. The AbilityOne Program is the largest source of employment for people in the United States who are blind or have other significant disabilities. More than 600 nonprofit organizations employ these individuals who provide quality goods and services to the federal government at a fair market price. The Program is administered by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Significantly Disabled, an independent federal agency, with assistance from National Industries for the Blind (NIB), and NISH-Creating Employment Opportunities for People with Significant Disabilities.
NISH – CVE is a NISH affiliated nonprofit agency. NISH is the national, nonprofit agency designated by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Significantly Disabled to support local nonprofit agencies (NPAs) that participate in the AbilityOne Program. These NPAs provide employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities through federal contracts to provide services and products. NISH supports the NPA network as well as federal customers by providing business development and contract management assistance, engineering and technical advice, legislative and regulatory guidance, professional training, and communications assistance.
MISSION – The mission of Cass Valley Enterprises is to provide employment opportunities for area citizens with mental, physical, social and economic disabilities, and to supply quality products and services to our customers on a timely basis, so that Cass Valley Enterprises can contribute funds to support itself and the Customers and Programs of Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems.
